spike: investigate moving to uvicorn

While not abandoned, the most recent release of gunicorn was over a year ago. Perhaps it is time to get ahead of the curve and investigate moving over to uvicorn and Django's ASGI support. This unblocks the possibility of asynchronous-aware views and database queries which some projects may find useful.
