Administrative account required for managing lecture and code resources for MPhil in Data Intensive Science

I require an administrative account so I can create a group for our New MPhil. We want to co-locate repos related to lecture notes, code examples and other course material so all lecturers can access it while remaining private from the student cohort

Thanks for your email. Do you currently have a top level gitlab group? If so, you should be able to create a private group within this and only invite the members you wish to have access.

Ok, I will try this and see if it satisfies our need, which is simply to have a set of repositories that all the group can see but are private to the outside world.

We don’t have a top-level group. Could you help in creating this?

We would want it called something like: DIS-MPhil or similar.

Usually these would be present under a specific department. I appreciate that the MPhil is cross-departmental but perhaps one of the admins of https://gitlab.developers.cam.ac.uk/phy or https://gitlab.developers.cam.ac.uk/astronomy could adopt you? Generally we prefer top-level groups correspond to institutions with dedicated IT support officers if at all possible.

In any case, we'd need the information requested in https://gitlab.developers.cam.ac.uk/uis/devops/devhub/docs/-/wikis/FAQs#how-can-i-create-groups.

We need to have a human-friendly name for the group, a suggested "short name" for the group and at least two initial admins for the group.

And, further quoting from that FAQ:

In general a top-level group should represent some autonomous unit within the University. Examples of top-level groups include: colleges, departments and divisions within a larger department.

OK, do you know who the admin in Physics is? That would probably make the most sense.

https://gitlab.developers.cam.ac.uk/groups/phy/-/group_members is probably a good first place to start. Note that Physics may have their own procedures for raising IT support requests.
